Description

Based in a frameShot from Death Proof movie.

I'm obsessed with muscle cars, mainly Mustangs and Chevy's, but if the car is awesome who the heck cares what make it is.
I know what you're thinking, aw its another one of those douchebags who loves all the "fast & the furious-shit".
NO...I love all the 60's and 70's road movies with all the vintage cars and real scenes of chases.
I've put together a list of ten movies containing what I think are the best chase scenes ever put on film (no C.G.I. shit)
So here we go, the Top 10 Movie Car Chases in no particular order:

Gone in 60 Seconds (Original 1974).-
Although most of the movie has the feel of a low budget, poorly acted porn film, 93 cars are destroyed during the 40 minute car chase featuring the yellow Mach I Mustang Eleanor.
Bullitt (1968).-
This Steve McQueen classic came out during the peak of the muscle car era and imagine the fun of 400 horse power on the streets and hills of San Francisco. At the time it came out, this was without question the best car chase ever filmed.
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior (1981).-
More car wreck than you can shake a stick shift at: bikers flying off their motorcycles and doing somersaults in midair + arrows guns + Molotov cocktails dropped from a gyrocopter + fools getting run down under huge truck tires + shotgun blasts to the face + incoherent animal growls from a boomerang-wielding kindergartner = cinematic excellence!
The French Connection (1971).-
This is a crime thriller about cops on the trail of a heroin shipment. But it contains a chase scene that was heralded as the best ever at the time it was filmed. Many of the stunts in this chase were actually real and unintentional such as the lady with the baby carriage who nearly gets mowed down.
Vanishing Point (1971).-
No one remembers the silly existential mysticism of "Vanishing Point," but the white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T that dominates the movie is unforgettable.
Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry (1974).-
According to director John Hough (The Legend of Hell House), his white trash cult classic was "an action picture with a lot of stunts." That about sums it up.
Ronin (1998).-
Many of the high-speed shots have the actual actors in the cars. Skipp Sudduth did nearly all of his own driving, while other cars were right hand drive models with stunt drivers driving - crashes were handled by a stuntman. To lend additional authenticity, the sound recordist re-recorded many of the vehicles in the chases to ensure that during the editing, the right sounds were dubbed in for each vehicle. The chases are also notable for their lack of musical score
Duel (1971).-
Steven Spielberg's first full-length film. The whole movie is one pulse-pounding car chase about a traveling salesman (played to nebbish perfection by Dennis Weaver) who finds himself pursued by the a psychotic driver of a big rig.
The Italian Job (1969).-
The pursuit follows three Mini Coopers around the streets of Turin, Italy, at break-neck speed.
I know...but I like a lot the Mini Coopers
Death Proof (2006).-
Film written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, about a psychopathic stunt man who targets young women, murdering them with his "death proof" stunt car. The film, a tribute to the slasher film/serial killer genre and cars movies. In this scene from Death Proof, Tarantino used real cars to make the crash as violent as possible.

Car chases in the movies aren’t what they used to be. Computer-generated effects tend to kill suspense and surprise and turn the experience into something as artificial as a video game. When everything can be faked, the “wow” factor disappears.
